Fitchburg, Mass.—Fitchburg State College recently announced the recipients of two faculty awards during its 113th commencement exercises on May 16.
Dr. Christine Cosgrove is the 2009 winner of the Dr. Vincent J. Mara Award for Excellence in College Teaching. Cosgrove is a professor of mathematics. She has taught at Fitchburg State since 1971, and is retiring this summer. She holds a bachelor of arts from Mount Holyoke College, and a master of science and a doctorate from Georgetown University. She is a member of the Mathematics Association of America, and her research interests are computer laboratory work for Calculus I; physics, math and technology; and the 20th century course for the Leadership Academy.
Susan Wadsworth is the 2009 recipient of the Faculty Award for Research and Scholarship. She is a professor of art at Fitchburg State, and has been with the college since 1992. She received a bachelor of arts from Colby College, a master of arts from Tufts University, and a master of fine arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art. Wadsworth’s art has been featured in a number of local exhibitions, including the recent Fall Foliage Art Studio Tours in New Hampshire; 75 of her pieces were represented in the event. She has also begun a new series of works dealing with forest views looking into the distance, studying the energy of branches, the views through those branches and their energized spiritual result. In addition, she has submitted a paper for a Hofstra conference: “The Paintings and Theory of Hans Hofmann: The Spiritual Foundation of Abstract Expressionism.” |
