FITCHBURG, Mass. – Fitchburg State College will continue its tradition of public service on Thursday, Sept. 10 when more than 40 members of the campus community turn out for the 14th Annual Day of Caring with the United Way of North Central Massachusetts.
Each year United Way agencies from throughout the region are asked if they need help with maintenance or other projects that normally cannot get done by the agency due to financial and personnel constraints. This year the Day of Caring volunteers expect to tackle approximately 50 projects at 25 non-profit agencies.
“I’m pleased that the college has always shown generosity toward the United Way and we will continue to do so,” said Fitchburg State College President Robert V. Antonucci.
The Fitchburg State College contingent, which includes 12 students, will tackle projects such as helping to build a handicapped-accessible addition to a home for Habitat for Humanity of North Central Massachusetts; cleaning up storm debris and doing maintenance at the Girl Scouts of Central and Western Massachusetts Camp Green Eyrie in Harvard; painting the offices of Battered Women’s Resources in Leominster; and helping the Twin Cities CDC with a neighborhood clean-up on Elm Street in Fitchburg.
Volunteers will gather at the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel in Leominster at 8 a.m. and will be dispatched to their work sites after breakfast. The day concludes with a music-filled afternoon barbecue at the Finnish Center at Saima Park in Fitchburg. |
