Family Weekend coming in October

09/09/2009

Fitchburg, Mass.—Fitchburg State College is opening its doors to students’ families in October for a weekend of entertainment.

The main event for Family Weekend, held Oct. 3, is the 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3 performance of comedian and Disney Channels Thats So Raven star Rondell Sheridan at Weston Auditorium.

Many of us have invited Rondell Sheridan into our homes as he has played roles as the father in both Nickelodeon's “Cousin Skeeter” and Disney Channel's highest rated series "That's So Raven" and "Cory in the House." He has been part uncle, part baby sitter, and big part funniest adult friend. Whether it is the roles he has played or whether you have seen some of his stand-up comedy, Rondell is sure to always keep you laughing.

As a stand-up comedian, Sheridan transforms ordinary occurrences into hilarious and hearty tales. In an age where stand-up is under attack for its bawdy content, Sheridan disarms his audiences with a wholesome ease - a mixture of playful physicality, facial expressions and a gift to continually shift comedic gears and personas.

Tickets for the event are $5 for Fitchburg State students; $10 for family, faculty/staff and Fitchburg State alumni; and $15 for the general public and tickets at the door.

Other Family Weekend events include an Up, Up and Away-themed parade starting on North Street in front of Weston Auditorium at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2, followed by a spectacular fireworks display set to music, and an outdoor showing of Disney/Pixar’s “UP” at Coolidge Park near the Landry ice arena at the Wallace Civic Center.

On Saturday, Oct. 3, families can check out Womens Soccer vs. Bridgewater State 10 a.m. at Elliot Field.  There will be a Tailgate Lunch from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. also at Elliot Field, followed by a football game versus Bridgewater State College. A campus fun fair will also be held at Elliot Field from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tethered Hot Air Balloon Rides, and a menagerie of events will be a part of the festivities.  A Continental Feast dinner will be held from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at Holmes Dining Commons for $8.95 for guests or free for FSC students on the meal plan.
